Maren Stickley

Ph.D. Student
Marine Biology & Ecology

Maren graduated from University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science in 2022 with a B.S. in Marine Science and Biology. During her time as an undergraduate at UM, Maren volunteered in the Coral Reef Futures Lab helping to care for coral recruits and juveniles being used in experiments. She also completed an undergraduate senior thesis project studying the settlement and post-settlement growth of coral larvae on various cement substrates through a collaboration with Dr. Prannoy Suraneni in UM's Civil and Architectural Engineering Department. She then started her PhD in 2022 with an interest in continuing her study of settlement and early development of Caribbean coral species, as well as how interventions in the sexual propagation of corals can increase their genetic diversity. Though this research, Maren hopes to improve restoration capabilities and recovery of reefs in the Caribbean.
