Madison Praxl

Undergraduate student
Marine Biology & Ecology

Madison Praxl is a Marine Affairs student at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, with a second Major in Psychology. She has been involved in coral research as a Coral Reproduction Assistant in the Coral Reef Futures Lab for two years, where she has gained hands-on experience in coral spawning, larval rearing, and genetic analysis. She has assisted multiple PhD students with their experiments for their programs. Her senior thesis examined the effects of artificial seawater versus filtered seawater on the settlement of Caribbean species of larval coral. She has also worked with Clearwater Marine Aquarium's Sea Turtle Conservation program as an intern and associate biologist for two nesting seasons, monitoring the nests, reporting endangered species of migratory sea birds, and much more. She is passionate about educating people about the ocean and its many creatures and has worked extensively with both salt and freshwater aquaria. She hopes to receive a PhD focusing on the behavioral ecology of sharks and rays in the coming years, applying all she has learned with the Lab.
