Ph.D. Student
Marine Biology & Ecology
Brad graduated his B.Sc. in Biology from Carleton University focusing on benthic community phase-shifts and disease ecology in Caribbean coral reefs at the Cape Eleuthera Institute (CEI) in The Bahamas. Following his B.Sc., he continued working at CEI to assess coral reef health during the 2014-2017 global bleaching event. Brad received his M.Sc. in Biology at Memorial University of Newfoundland focusing on the prokaryotic communities found in deep-sea soft corals. In 2019, Brad started his Ph.D. under the guidance of Dr. Javier del Campo and is using a combination of molecular techniques (short/long read rRNA gene metabarcoding), traditional culturing and microscopy, and imaging (FISH) to help uncover the unknown causative agents responsible for various coral diseases. Brad is a member of both the del Campo Lab and Coral Reef Futures Lab, being co-advised by Dr. Baker.
